Mini Bat Pumpkins

Hi Friends,

Mix a little mischief into your Halloween decorations with these tiny winged charmers. Just add craft-foam or card-stock wings to diminutive pumpkins and gourds painted black and let kids give them a personality with painted-on eyes and a smile. These not-too-scary creatures are fun to create and will look great grouped together on your mantel, entry table or as a centerpiece.

Materials Needed:

• several small white or orange pumpkins
• black chalkboard paint
• paintbrush
• chalk
• scissors
• thin black craft foam
• sharp knife
• Choose Pumpkins

Choose Pumpkins
Choose several small pumpkins with rounded, squat shapes.



Create Wings
Use a pencil to draw the shape of a bat wing onto a sheet of thin black craft foam (Image 1). Using scissors, cut out the wing (Image 2). Using the first wing as a template, cut out as many wings as you'll need to attach two to each pumpkin (Image 3).



Paint Pumpkins
Paint the entire surface of each pumpkin with black chalkboard paint and allow to dry.



Cut Opening
Use a sharp knife to carefully cut a slot on the left and right sides of each pumpkin. Each slot should be about the same size as the base of each bat wing.



Insert Wings
Slide foam bat wings into slots in pumpkins.



Draw Eyes
Using a piece of chalk, lightly draw eyes and a mouth onto the front side of each pumpkin.
Tip: Pressing too hard will cause the paint to peel. It's best to use a light touch.
