Happy Father's Day Friends,
Give Dad the ultimate grilling accessory that will hold all the barbecue essentials.
Materials Needed:
- 1/2 yard heavy-duty denim fabric
- 1 construction belt (or an old belt)
- 1-2 leather tool holders
- scrap leather
- measuring tape
- water-soluble fabric pencil or chalk
- scissors
- X-Acto knife
- leather punch
- 6 medium rapid rivets
- rivet setter
- rubber mallet
- small anvil
- sewing machine
- heavy-duty thread
Cut and Sew Fabric
With measuring tape, cut fabric into a 27 x 16-inch piece. Fold, pin and sew a 1-inch seam underneath (images 1 and 2). If working with stiff denim, use an iron to set in the seams. Fold the top of the fabric back over your belt and pin into place (image 3).
Mark and Cut for Holders
With a fabric pencil, mark placement for any tool holders and cut slit with an X-Acto knife.
Add Belt
Feed construction belt though the fabric cuts and tool holders and sew belt into place (images 1, 2 and 3).
Cut Leather Straps
For tool and towel hooks, cut two 3 1/2 x 1-inch strips and one 7 x 1-inch strip from your leather scraps.
Attach Leather Straps
With a leather punch tool, punch a hole above each leather notch (image 1). On your anvil, sandwich the denim and leather between the rivet backing and cap (use your X-Acto knife to ease the backing through fabric), and set into place by striking the rivet setter with a rubber mallet (images 2 and 3).
