Bold patterns add visual interest but too much of a good thing can be, well, too much of a good thing. Strike a balance by pairing just one bold pattern, like the rug, with smaller patterns, like the drapes and pillows. Keep all the patterns in the same color family for a look that's dramatic but not over-the-top. You can create similar drama in your space with a little time, creativity and research.

Get a Sense of Humor

Hi Friends,

Sometimes a sense of humor in an otherwise tailored space can create a not-so-serious feeling. Here the walls are covered in a pinstripe wool menswear suit fabric, the juxtaposition of a white resin moose head against the tailored walls creates a light-hearted element of surprise. Since dark-colored accessories could easily get lost in the navy blue tone of the pinstriped wall covering, bulky ultra-white vases were grouped together to create a strong contrast. Recreate this setting on a budget by visiting your local discount store and re-purposing items in you very own home.

Hi Friends,

Online shopping is an excellent way to find great-looking lighting at affordable prices. Since the overwhelming amount of options at lighting showrooms can be super time-consuming to look through, shopping online is also a major time-saver. These chrome and crystal pendants adds a touch of shine to your entertaining space. The trio came to $260 with shipping and an estimated $125 per fixture for labor to install new junction boxes and attach the pendants. Be sure to get an estimate from your local electrician, as labor prices will vary.

Masculine Sophistication

Father's Day is just around the corner; let's celebrate our Fathers with a new room that is masculine for him with a sophisticated flare that's not too masculine for you. First, chose a color scheme of dark brown, red, white and silver to put a more sophisticated spin on the masculine-inspired style. This space was created on a deceptively low budget that was maximized by mixing high and low price-point purchases with a combination of flea market finds and custom-made elements.

Guest-Ready Oasis

Hi Friends,

The past couple weeks we have been inspired by the shabby-chic, beach-inspired rooms. Today we are going to address our guest with ideas from RMS user Beachyone. If you want your guest to be surrounded by the soothing feel of the ocean indoors, this guest room is ideal vacation oasis with a pastel color scheme of green, peach and white, and accessorized with wicker baskets, marine life prints and dark Roman shades to keep out the sun for afternoon naps. To make your guests feel comfortable and welcome, keep the amenities and feel of a hotel in mind. Maintain a soothing color scheme, plenty of pillows, storage space and bathroom essentials. And of course, mirror the home's surroundings. The weathered oars, sand-filled table lamps and natural accessories will constantly remind them that they're on vacation.
