Black Poisoned Apples

Hi Friends,

Don't worry, these apples aren't really deadly — but they certainly look it. To make them, you'll need: apples, twigs that have been washed and trimmed, granulated sugar, light corn syrup, water, cinnamon-flavored oil, red food coloring, black food coloring and a candy thermometer. Thoroughly wash each apple, remove the stem and insert a twig (you may need to sharpen the end first). Next, stir sugar, corn syrup and water together in a saucepan until the sugar dissolves. Boil until the syrup reaches 300 degrees F on a candy thermometer. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in flavored oil and food coloring. To coat the apple, dip completely in the syrup and swirl it. Hold the apple above the saucepan so the excess coating can drain off. Place candied apple onto a baking sheet that's been greased or lined to allow it to cool.

Pick Your Poison

Hi Friends,

Don't toss that empty bottle! Instead make it part of your spooky Halloween decor. Collect empty glass bottles throughout the year, especially those with interesting shapes. In a well-ventilated area, coat each with two to three coats of flat black spray paint. Check your local craft store's scrapbooking area for blank labels or make your own with card stock and a permanent marker.

Happy Boss's Day!

Hi Friends,

Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank our bosses, encourage our future bosses and share a little history about this National Holiday Day.

History
Patricia Bays Haroski registered "National Boss' Day" with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958. She was working as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois, at the time and chose October 16, which was her father's birthday. She was working for her father at the time. The purpose of designating a special day in the workplace is to show the appreciation for her bosses she thought they deserved. This was also a strategy to attempt to improve inner-work relationships between the high-ups and the employees. Haroski believed that young employees sometimes did not understand the hard work and dedication that their supervisors put into their work and the challenges they faced to do so. Four years later, in 1962, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner backed Haroski's registration and officially proclaimed the day.

National Boss's Day has become an international celebration in recent years and now is observed in countries such as Australia, India, Ireland, and Egypt. Note that Egypt celebrates their equivalent holiday on 10 December every year.

Aromatic Candy Corn Candles

Hi Friends,

Expecting trick-or-treaters or Halloween guests? Add a sweet aroma to your front porch with candy corn-filled hurricanes. To create them, place pillar candles inside clear glass hurricanes of different sizes then fill each hurricane, roughly halfway, with candy corn.

The aroma will certainly draw the trick-or-treaters running to your door. YUM...
