Retro Modern Living Room in Los Angeles

Courtesy of Ammie Kim

Hi Friends,

Muted colors in this living area allow the view of downtown Los Angeles to be the main focal point. But you don't need a view of downtown Los Angeles to enjoy this space; make the space the view and share it entertaining family and good friends. The retro modern room features taupe, olive and beige colors, which coordinate well with the marble floors and silky velvet drapes.

Now start decorating your view...

No Walls Living and Dining Room

Courtesy of Nicole Sassaman

Hi Friends,

This view shows a nice transition from living space to dining space without any walls needed to create the separation of rooms. Large square panels on the dining room wall were previously painted with Oriental style birds. Now a solid gray tone helps accent panels and molding. A simple table and chairs complement the style and tones of the living room furniture.

Enjoy the modern separation of space without the vintage walls...

Design Tip: When dramatically changing the look of a room, look for easy shortcuts that will pull the room together. In this case, the formerly brass-colored sconces were spray-painted black to match the new ebony floors; cleaver and budget-friendly...

Make Organization Easy - Chalkboard Dresser

By H. Camille Smith

Hi Friends,

Designer Holly Mathis creatively eliminates cries of, "Mom, where are my socks?" with a chalkboard dresser. Low enough that her boys can reach the drawers, the chalk labels make getting dressed as simple as "sock 1" plus "sock 2 and what a conversational novelty to share with family and friends."

Extend your imagination and integrate chalkboard to other areas of your home; it's as easy as picking up chalkboard paint at your local paint or home improvement store. Have fun....
