Jute-Covered Monogram Wreath

Courtesy of Chelsea McDonnough

Hi Friends,

Personalize your door for fall with this gorgeous DIY craft-store wreath. Although this is designed for fall, some minor adjustments will transition this right into the Holidays. Replace the Rosettes with Holly or Poinsettias and the black ribbon with red or green ribbon and Voilà; it's your favorite Holiday wreath.

Materials Needed:
  • 12" paper mache letter (available at craft supply stores)
  • 2 rolls of jute twine
  • felt
  • ribbon
  • hot glue gun
  • scissors

Attach Jute
Start by securing the jute on the back side of the letter with a glue gun. You'll eventually wrap the entire letter, horizontally.

Start Wrapping
Next, start to vertically wrap it around that section of the N. Put a dab of glue every so many inches to secure the jute to the letter.

Wrap in the Opposite Direction
After wrapping the section of the N vertically, begin wrapping in the opposite direction with the other roll of jute. Secure the jute with glue every 5 to 6 rows.

Work in Sections
Stop once you get to the corner where the slanting part meets the straight part of the N. Then, start wrapping the middle part of the N with the other roll of jute.

Wrap Horizontally
Then, wrap the other side of the N. Go over the middle to make it horizontal like the two other sides to make it look more uniform.

Attach Rosettes
When you finish wrapping the letter, make three felt rosettes (search Google video for "felt rosette tutorial" to find instructions). You can also make two bows with the ribbon, then attach everything with a glue gun, including ribbon on the back to hang.

Put the Rule of Three to Work

Courtesy of HGTV

Hi Friends,

Designers have long relied on the rule of three when creating a balanced interior but this rule works just as well when setting the table — and best of all, it's easy to follow. Pick one element and repeat it three times. Here, the same amber color is used in the placemats, napkin and centerpiece, creating a sophisticated, pulled-together look.

Happy Thanksgiving and Bon Appétit...

New Thanksgiving Tradition: Create a Thankful Tree

Courtesy of Jeanine Hays
Photography by Leon Belt, Beltway Graphics

Hi Friends,

Give thanks in a new way this holiday season. Invite friends and family to share what they are most thankful for by creating a thankful tree that can take center stage throughout the Thanksgiving holiday.

Materials Needed:
  • package of 36 large, die-cut paper leaves
  • black gel pens
  • hole punch
  • scissors
  • spool of baker's twine
  • 2 bunches of curly willow
  • postcard paper
  • picture frame
  • package of crayons
  • colored pencils
  • tall, sturdy vase

Punch Leaves
Look for a colorful mix of paper die-cut leaves in fall hues of orange, red, yellow and brown. The more variety in color and shape, the better your tree will look. Using a hole punch, make a hole at the base of each leaf.

Cut Twine and Thread Through Leaves
Cut baker's twine into three-inch strips. Thread the cut twine through the hole in each leaf. Bring both ends of the twine together to create a loop and knot at the top of the loop. Tip: Purchase twine in a variety of colors, from gold to silver to black and white. The twine can add to the colorful mix on your thankful tree.

Create an Instructional Postcard
Using your computer, develop a customized postcard to introduce guests to the purpose of the tree. Choose white 4" x 6" postcard paper. Type a special note to your guests and ask them to write what they are thankful for. Print the notecard, and place it in your favorite 4" x 6" frame in front of the tree.

Invite Guests to Write a Message
When guests arrive, provide them with a leaf and a black gel pen to write what they are thankful for. Be sure to provide guests with extra leaves, pens, colored pencils and crayons so they can get creative when expressing their special messages of thanks.

Hang Leaves on Tree
Place bundles of curly willow in a sturdy, tall vase. Spread out the branches so there's plenty of room for leaves to be hung on the branches. As guests finish their messages, instruct them to tie them onto the tree so everyone can enjoy them. Tip: Curly willow branches have been dried, so no water is needed to keep them alive.

Read Your Notes of Thanks
After the meal, invite family and friends to enjoy the notes of thanks, reading through them and reflecting on what each person is thankful for. Allow guests to take their leaves home as a favor or date and keep them till next year. To keep the thankful tree going as a tradition, bring it out each year so everyone can add new leaves and remember how many blessings they have in their lives.

Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your new Thankful Tree with family and good friends this year and many years to come...

15 Stylish Thanksgiving Table Settings

Hi Friends,

Natural Elements

Personalized Pumpkins

Small details can make a big impact on your Thanksgiving table. Try tying handmade place cards to mini pumpkins for a personal touch that will make guests feel special. Design by Holly Mathis.

Fall Florals

Create a floral centerpiece fit for Thanksgiving by adding berries or mini pumpkins to an arrangement of red, orange and yellow flowers. Rate My Space user patrick paired this warm floral centerpiece with ice-blue place mats for a striking contrast.

Appealing Palette

Choosing a color scheme is a great starting point for setting your Thanksgiving table. Rate My Space user nyclq opted for chocolate brown contrasted with crisp white — a perfect palette for fall that also complements her dining room's decor.

Candleholder Conversion

Try using items you already own in a creative and unexpected way when designing your Thanksgiving tablescape. Rate My Space user Baubles found that candleholders also make great pedestals for mini pumpkins.

Less Is More

A Thanksgiving table doesn't have to be over the top to be beautiful. Rate My Space user luvmynugz paired a few subtle fall elements with neutral-colored dinnerware for a look that's understated yet elegant.

Adaptable Dinnerware

Investing in a versatile set of china makes setting your table for the holidays a cinch. Rate My Space user eriedecor uses china embellished with fruit and acorns from November to January, changing the accessories and color scheme for each holiday. Chocolate brown and khaki are her hues of choice for fall.

The Look for Less

If you want to create an elaborate Thanksgiving tablescape on a budget, scour stores for marked-down or slightly damaged items. Rate My Space user and smart shopper Tamgypsy got a turkey centerpiece at a discount because it was chipped. A bit of glitter to cover the imperfections, and the bird is as good as new.

Dressed-Up Basics

You don't have to buy brand-new dinnerware to create a beautiful Thanksgiving table. Rate My Space user decorating4fun topped simple white plates with crimson napkins for a splash of rich, fall color.

Rustic Elegance

Don't be afraid to mix textures and patterns when setting your Thanksgiving table. Rate My Space user GritsandGlamour paired glossy, gold chargers with course burlap to create a rich look perfect for fall.

Thanksgiving Glam

For a chic fall table, try combining traditional and trendy pieces. Rate My Space user veron paired stylish black-and-white plates with glitzy accessories in classic fall orange.

Vivid Color

As the weather cools down, warm up your dining room with rich reds and oranges. Rate My Space user zahirah1 topped off her welcoming Thanksgiving table with a glowing, candle centerpiece.

Decorative Dishes

Often inexpensive, seasonal plates in bold patterns and colors instantly add pizzazz to any Thanksgiving table. Design by Rate My Space user flamingjune.

Soaring Centerpiece

If your table setting is simple, spice it up with a dramatic focal point. Fall branches spilling from a tall vase add interest to Rate My Space user Faby's Thanksgiving table.

Topped With a Bow

Your Thanksgiving tablescape isn't limited to the table itself. Rate My Space user barbrowe even dressed up her chairs with large bronze bows, putting the finishing touch on a lavish setting.

Just a few ideas but feel free to be creative with your tablescape and share this wonderful season with the people that mean the most in your life; family and good freiends...
