What to Consider When Shopping for a Sleeper Sofa
Bed vs Sofa: Consider the primary purpose of the sofa. Will it serve as your only set up for overnight guests who visit frequently? Then you might want to prioritize the comfort of the bed configuration. But if it will primarily serve as a sofa just with the added bonus of accommodating an additional overnight guest or two a couple of times a year, then you may not need the most comfortable bed and can put more weight into sofa style, durability and size.
Size: Many sleeper sofas tend to be heavier, particularly the pullout styles with metal frames that add extra weight. If you anticipate moving it frequently, you may want to opt for a smaller option like a futon. Also be sure to measure your space for not just the sofa frame, but also the measurements for the fully-extended bed.
Converter Type: From sleeper sofas with pullout systems to sofa beds that simply fold down flat, consider how easy the sofa can transition from regular seating to a bed for overnight guests. If you intend to use the sleeper in an Airbnb rental with frequent guests, for example, you might want to go for the simpler-to-convert option.
Added Comfort: If you decide to opt for a lighter sofa but are concerned you'll be sacrificing a more comfortable mattress, consider a mattress topper that'll better mold to your body and provide extra cushion.
