Darkroom, HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams
The boldest shade in the HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams' collection, Darkroom has earned the title of their Color of the Year. This rich black with eggplant undertones is undoubtedly romantic, moody and elegant all at once.

The purple notes in this black paint means it adds drama to almost any space in a soft, inviting way. In a living room, it elevates the design while maintaining a cozy and relaxed feel. Another plus: Since it’s a neutral, it accents the other shades in the collection effortlessly and can be used indoors and out.

The boldest Color of the Year selection for 2023 is Benjamin Moore's Raspberry Blush. This lively red-orange is full of personality and aims to inspire dramatic transformations around the home.
How You Can Use It
Go all-in and try this blazing hue on the walls of a living room for a look that's all together bright, warm and homey. Not ready to douse your walls with red? Use this paint to give an old piece of furniture a striking new look, or put paint to paper (or canvas) and create an eye-catching piece of DIY art to jazz up a bare wall.
Redend Point, Sherwin-Williams
A derivative of the terracotta trend that has been part of the design landscape for the past few years, pinky-beige is the new neutral on the scene for 2023. Redend Point by Sherwin-Williams encapsulates this soulful, earthy hue.
How You Can Use It
"This blush-beige is so warm and calming I'd definitely use it as a neutral; maybe on the walls of my bedroom. I love a light space and this color would go great with my white bedding and woven accents," says Caroline Alkire, managing editor, HGTV.com. "To take it from neutral to bold, I'd pair it with deep blacks — furniture, paint, cabinetry ... anything!"
Gentle Violet, Valspar
Lavender is having a moment, and the color experts at Valsar predict it will continue to be a trending hue in 2023. One of 12 shades in their 2023 Colors of the Year collection, Gentle Violet is a livable lavender that will rejuvenate any space.
How You Can Use It
"Gentle Violet is a calming and comforting hue. This subtle addition of color can be combined with rich accents to create a distinct and charming look in your home," says Lauren Fansler, contributing writer and designer liaison for HGTV.com. "This instantly soothing shade would be the perfect accent in a reading nook."
Viva Magenta, Pantone
This electrifying red doesn't hold back. Still, like many other trending colors for 2023, it has ties to nature. “PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family," says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. "Invoking the forces of nature, it galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”
This nuanced shade of fuchsia toes the line between warm and cool colors, making it a versatile addition to various palettes. While it pairs well with other reddish hues, like maroon and coral, it's especially striking in a palette of rich jewel tones.
Everglade Deck, Valspar
Another hue from Valspar's 2023 collection, Everglade Deck is all about restoration. This deep teal will liven up plain walls while elevating the surrounding design.
How You Can Use It
Painting this sea green on a piece of furniture, like a dresser or a console, would provide a pretty pop in an otherwise neutral room. But the color is sophisticated enough to cover every wall (and even the ceiling!) without feeling overpowering — it's saturated and soothing all at once.
Tiramisu, C2 Paint
"Just like we're seeing in fashion, '90s-style browns and neutrals are coming back in a major way in the design world," says Sidney Lee, assistant home editor, HGTV Magazine. "Tiramisu by C2 Paint plays off of this in an especially inviting way with warm, chocolatey undertones."
How You Can Use It
"Though it's warmer and more saturated than your typical beige, this toasty neutral has endless possibilities around your home. Apply it on the walls to cover a room with coziness or try it on small accents, like a side table, if you just want to get a taste of the trend," says Sidney.
Alizarin, Graham & Brown
Saturated and brooding, Alizarin by Graham & Brown is a tawny crimson shade. With depth and warmth, this historical hue — named after the pigment traditionally used to make red dye — is all about creating an inviting home.
How You Can Use It
Try it in a small space, like a powder room or den, to create a cocoon of color. In larger rooms this rich auburn makes a space instantly more luxurious.
Terra Rosa, Dunn-Edwards
This earthy, rosy hue by Dunn-Edwards, aptly named Terra Rosa, is a more vibrant option compared to traditional neutrals. "It’s a deeper, warmer, more sophisticated take on two of my favorite color trends of the past few years: terracotta and pink," says Kate Doherty, market director, HGTV Magazine.
How You Can Use It
"Rosy hues are considered super flattering, so splash this on a dining room’s walls and the warm tones will make everyone around the table look good," says Kate. "Plus, it’ll instantly amp up the cozy and create a welcoming space where people will want to linger."
