Easy Weekend Projects to Try This Summer

Compliments of Jennifer O'Neil and Kitty O'Neil

Hi Friends,

Give your home a new look indoors and out with easy summer decorating projects you can tackle this weekend.

Add a Bright New Headboard
Add style, color and texture to your bedroom with this do-it-yourself headboard that looks anything but DIY. A great project for newbie woodworkers, this headboard can be completed in just a few hours and for less than $100.

Ombre, Hombre

Gradual-hued ombre is everywhere, from hairstyles to napkins to dressers. Get a small dose of the trend by painting a mini jewelry chest from lazuli blue to sage. Bronze accessories and towels in terra cotta to round out this sun-warmed, Southwest-inspired bath. Photo by Jennifer and Kitty O'Neil

Neon Lights

The '80s are back on the scene in neon pink, orange, yellow and green. These eye-poppers liven up any decor, but remember that with fluorescents, a little goes a long way. Use masking tape to outline stripes on pillar candleholders, then paint each stripe a different shocking shade using — nail polish! It's not only inexpensive, but it also works well on glass.

Create a Book Backdrop

Add unexpected color to a white room by painting the back end of a bookcase in a hot hue, like this fresh yellow-green hue.

Create a Family Message Center

Keep beach trips and summer camp schedules in order by creating a custom-framed chalkboard message center.

Create a Focal Wall With Painted Frames

Who needs art? Add a bold statement to your home this summer with empty, colorful picture frames.

Refresh a Lamp With a Custom Fabric Shade

Give a tired lamp a fresh, high-end look by covering the shade with trendy fabric and ribbon.
